Capsule Geology

The End area is Devonian metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. A Late Devonian pluton of McLymont Plutonic Suite consisting of quartz diorite is in contact to the immediate west of the Stikine rock.

The End Zone is underlain by a sequence of argillite, andesitic tuff, cherty tuffs and purple-green agglomerates exhibiting a northeasterly trend in rugged precipitous terrain. Showings of arsenopyrite in silicified, iron-carbonated, near vertical shear zones occur intermittently in a northeasterly alignment.

A sample taken in 1990 assayed 17.1 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 20562).

Rock-saw sampling in areas where 1990 samples were anomalous in gold was carried out in the End Zone area in addition to continued prospecting of the area (Assessment Report 23629). At least two subparallel silicified shear zones mineralized with arsenopyrite crosscut a sequence of chloritic siltstone sediments. The shears are separated by approximately 40 metres. One rock saw trench was placed over each shear where anomalous results had been obtained in 1990. A total of 17 rock samples were collected from the area.

In 1995, samples 5809 and 5810 yielded elevated gold values of 280 and 435 parts per billion respectively (Assessment Report 24150).
